Hey people! Welcome to my blog, Essential Choices.
Originally I was unsure if I wanted this to be a business blog or a personal blog. When I first had the thought to start a blog it was to only write reviews for different products. But then I realized that I could, and should, do much more than just that. I want to have the autonomy to write about books I read, crafts that intrigue me, music or podcasts I enjoy. I want to be able to share my honest thoughts and opinions on an assortment of topics, yet still have it all be in the realm of what my blog is about. I didn’t want it to be super formal or only about promoting products. With those things in mind, I decided that a personal blog was definitely the way to go.
My original intention with Essential Choices was a business blog that reviews a variety of things including fragrances, shoes and bags, skin and body care, and home appliances. To come up with inspiration for outfits and interior decorating (seasonal or otherwise). My mission was to connect my audience to high-quality goods and products, items that would (hopefully) then be considered “essential choices” in their everyday lives. My goal remains the same. I still fully intend on fulfilling said goal, just in a way that is more personal to me.
That’s where the book reviews, music and podcast recommendations, and crafts will shine. These are all things that I consider to be “essential” in my life, all things that have helped me through tough periods in my life. There are so many books I’ve read that taught me something new, made me see things from a different perspective, or even made me analyze things about myself and my behavior that I would love to write about and share with others. Books that have evoked a deep emotional response from me. Music that has gotten me through really painful periods of my life, that has inspired me, that ignites the creativity within me. Podcasts that I patiently wait for a new episode of each week. New crafts and projects that I want to try.
The other goal of mine is to to help cultivate and nourish a community here. Over the last couple of years I’ve experienced what I would call real loneliness. I still felt so alone despite being surrounded by people I knew loved me. Journaling helped me for a while but I was still lacking a deeper, meaningful connection with other people. There isn’t a time I can remember where I haven’t yearned for community. For community that understands me and shares hobbies and interests with me. A community that I could really call mine.
The more I’m expanding on the idea of what this blog could be and what it could mean for me, the more this feels real to me. The more my enthusiasm and optimism grows. The more I felt called to build it in a way that would allow me to connect with other people and build a community like the one I just described. I feel with so much certainty that I feel this is in alignment with me and that it is something that I’m supposed to be doing.
I could write for days about everything that I feel passionate about. I am truly thankful and will undeniably adore having the opportunity to write about the things that I love and that are so near and dear to my heart. While I can’t say with certainty everything I will choose to write about, I can say to expect posts about books I read, music or podcasts I’m listening to, beauty and cosmetic product reviews, fashion, DIY crafts, and interior design inspiration. My hope is to be able to expand this blog to include topics such as recipes (food, skincare, hair care), travel, health and fitness, video games, and possibly astrology/numerology. Maybe even more personal posts once in a while.
I greatly encourage feedback and will happily take recommendations. That includes books I should read, music or podcasts I should listen to, products I should review, themes or ideas you would like to see inspiration for. It would be greatly appreciated if you guys could follow Essential Choices on Instagram and Pinterest @essentialchoicesblog. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this post, it truly means a lot to me.
